When singer-pianist Kelly Dalton & bassist James Webber decided to form KANAN the idea was simple: assemble a band they would want to be in and play music they would want to hear. Judging by their debut “Stages” a combination of strong melodies and beautiful compositions, their goal has been met. Drummer Owen Barnhart left a smaller then small town in Washington (pop. 80) for greener pastures in California and crossed paths with Kelly & James to complete KANAN in 2004. In a Los Angeles music scene dominated and diluted by image based artists, the monotonous sound of like-sounding bands can be inescapable; however, the listener will do well to discover the elegant, yet equally powerful sound of KANAN. Theirs is a soul-driven sound, one inspired by real-life experiences. The piano driven rock trio, formed in 2004, has culled their sound from a wide range of influences as diverse as The Counting Crows, Coldplay, and Tom Petty. KANAN completed “Stages” with the help of Producer Kent Hitchcock (Jurassic 5, Zakk Wylde, Cypress Hill) set for a May 2004 release. KANAN is a movement of intelligent rock music marked by thought-provoking lyrics that house the story of life's emotional twists and turns.
